The September 30th 2010 earthquake has destroyed 264.457 units of people’s houses, 241 office buildings, 1237 units of stores, 36 supermarkets, and many more units such as worship places, health clinics and exercise places. Besides losing many lives and assets, the disaster has also caused waste problem. This problem has become a serious issue among the community’s housing area; the unclean environment could disturb the process of reconstruction, trauma healing, children’s playground, as well as causing diseases.
The amount of waste can be control by the community with a valid waste management and transportation. Aceh People’s Forum (APF) is executing a program to serve 4242 families by providing them working tools to knock down damaged buildings and clean the broken pieces. On the other hand, APF is also directing the community to use the save waste management system for them and for the environment.
