The Aceh People’s Forum (APF) has established an emergency fund for the Padang earthquake response. The funds from this account will be jointly utilized by APF and their member organizations, FPRM (Forum Peduli Rakyat Miskin/Forum of Concern for the Poor), and SKS (Solidaritas Korban Tsunami/Tsunami Survivors Solidarity). The APF network has joined with many other Acehnese NGOs, such as Yayasan Sambinoe (Sambinoe Foundation), LBH (Lembaga Bantuan Hukum/Legal Aid Foundation), WALHI (Wahana Lingkungan Hidup Indonesia/Friends of the Earth Indonesia), and Kontras (Commission on “the Disappeared” and Victims of Violence), to form a humanitarian coalition called Poros Kemanusiaan Aceh (Aceh Humanitarian Axis).
The APF network is on the ground in Padang and has already started to distribute food, family kits and hygiene kits to earthquake victims. They will provide regular reports on how funds are spent to anyone who contributes to their emergency fund.
The APF network has had years of experience in humanitarian assistance, providing assistance to victims of the 2004 tsunami, conflict affected IDPs, victims of Their activities include food and NFI distribution, camp management, public health promotion, psychosocial healing for disaster and conflict victims, and livelihood skills training for IDPs. APF have been trained in SPHERE Standards and Humanitarian Accountability Principles (HAP) and have partnered with international aid and development agencies such as Oxfam and UNDP.
